If your PC is low on storage, clear temporary files before running ChromeSetup.exe. Corporate machines may need an administrator password during install. After setup finishes, Chrome can become your default browser if you choose that option—nothing on this page forces that choice for you.
Virtual machines and older 32-bit Windows editions may not match the current stable channel. When in doubt, free a little extra disk space and install on a user account that can write to Program Files. The Guide page explains first-run language and sync settings once Chrome opens.

Five clear steps to finish setup
Follow this path if you clicked the primary Windows button above. Total time is usually only a few minutes on a normal broadband connection.

Start the download
Press Download Chrome for Windows. Wait until ChromeSetup.exe finishes saving. The package is roughly 95 MB. If your browser asks whether to keep the file, choose Keep so Windows Defender or your AV can finish its own scan.

Run the installer
Open the Downloads folder and double-click ChromeSetup.exe. Approve the User Account Control prompt if Windows asks for permission. Stay connected to the internet; the stub installer may fetch the latest stable bits during setup.

Let setup complete
A progress window appears while files copy into Program Files. Do not power off the PC. When setup ends, Chrome usually launches automatically with a welcome screen for defaults, themes, and optional sign-in.

Choose defaults carefully
Decide whether Chrome should be your default browser and whether to import data from another browser. You can change both later in Settings. Skip any options you do not understand; you can revisit them after reading the Guide.

Sign in and update
Sign in if you want bookmarks and passwords synced. Confirm Help → About Google Chrome shows a current build near 138.0.7204.97 or newer. Chrome will keep updating quietly so security fixes arrive without another manual download from this page.
If antivirus software quarantines the stub installer, add a temporary exception only after you confirm the file came from the button on this page, then rescan. Schools and workplaces sometimes block EXE downloads; in those environments ask IT for an approved deployment method rather than bypassing policy.

Place Chrome in Applications, launch it once, and enable sync so your Windows bookmarks can appear on the Mac. Keep macOS itself updated; older OS builds eventually fall outside the supported range for new Chrome major versions.
iOS & Android tips
Use the App Store or Google Play buttons so updates stay tied to your store account. On first launch, sign in with the same account you use on desktop. Allow notifications only if you want them; you can revoke later. Mobile Chrome shares passwords and bookmarks when sync is on, but some desktop-only extensions will not appear on phones—that is expected. For Linux, prefer the platform chooser so you receive packages that match your package manager instead of copying a Windows EXE by mistake.
